Managing menus

Ordering menus by weight is difficult. Drupal provides a menu administration page which allows you to drag-and-drop menu items.

Drag-and-drop menu items to reorganize them

To rearrange a menu:

  1. Go to Structure in the black bar at the top, and choose Menus.
  2. Click list linksnext to the menu you want to reorganize.
    • Drupal has 4 built-in menus: main menu, management, navigation and user menu. Your site may have additional menus.
    • Below the menu name is description text, which should explain what the menu is and where it is displayed. If you're unsure which menu to change, try main menu or primary links.
  3. Drag the menu items around into the order you want.
    • You can create a sub-menu by dragging an item under another and then slightly to the right. The item will seem to "snap into place".
    • You can drag an item out of a sub-menu either by dragging it to it's new place; or, if it's the last item in the sub-menu, by dragging it to the left.
    • You can temporarily remove an item from a menu by unchecking it's Enabled checkbox.
    • Don't forget to click Save configuration when you are done!
  4. If you want to change the link text, description, etc., click edit next to the menu item. Note that if you've been dragging / disabling items, you have to click Save configuration first... otherwise clicking edit will cancel those changes!
  5. If you want to delete a menu item, click delete next to the menu item. Note that if you've been dragging / disabling items, you have to click Save configuration first... otherwise clicking edit will cancel those changes!Note this only deletes the menu item... the page will still be there and will still be accessible if someone knows the web address to it!
