A 5-WEEK IN-DEPTH STUDY FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOD'S WORD
As we studied the book of Colossians over the past weeks, we very briefly met a man named Onesimus. He had been with Paul in Rome and during their time together Onesimus became a believer in Jesus Christ. Onesimus had been a slave of Philemon, whom he betrayed and then fled from. The letter he brought to Colossae was written by Paul to his friend Philemon as a plea to receive Onesimus back as no longer a slave but now as a brother in Christ.
This summer we will devote 5 weeks to going deeply into this short yet powerful epistle. It is unique among the letters of Paul in the New Testament. It is the only one that is purely personal in that it is not written to a church or a church leader. He uses words here that are not in any of the other letters. Every phrase throws a light onto the character and personality of Paul. We will get to know him as we haven’t quite before!
We will tackle the question of slavery in the Bible, knowing that the New Testament never speaks against it and as our most recent habit we will study this book for what it may offer to help us live victoriously in these last days! We trust that when we are done, we will find ourselves very grateful that this tiny letter was preserved and protected for us to be instructed by!
Please join us this summer!
